More on this amazing day trip here
All three of these destinations are south-east of Munich and it is possible to combine two of the three destinations unless of course, you opt to spend a full day in either Berchtesgaden or Salzburg. It’s your private tour to enjoy as you like and plans can be made or changed with your guide while already underway. Squeezing in an extra activity is often possible under certain circumstances but does require an extra payment of 100€ directly to the tour guide at the end of the day as arrival back in Munich would not be until the late evening.
Herrenchiemsee Palace – this half-day option includes taking a ferry from the shore of spectacular Lake Chiemsee to Ludwig II’s copy of / tribute to the Palace of Versailles which is on an island. This destination can be combined with either a half day in Salzburg or a half day in Berchtesgaden, where we would visit either the Eagle’s Nest or take an unforgettable boat ride across the Königsee. (see below)
Half or full day in Salzburg – The charming and impressive old city center of Salzburg is a UNESCO World Heritage site and absolutely worth visiting, especially for anyone who has never been there before. Your driver tour guide can walk you through the historic old town within as little as two hours but you may prefer to spend the entire day in Salzburg instead. A complete ‘Sound of Music tour’ including visits to Hellabrunn Palace and the nearby Lake District as well as a visit to the fortress overlooking the old town are all options we can cover in a full day. You can decide on the day of your tour how you would most like to spend your time.
Half or full day in Berchtesgaden National Park area, location of the famed Eagle’s Nest You can choose to spend either half or the entire day in the gorgeous Berchtesgaden National Park area which is surrounded by mountains and the border with Austria. It is here that Adolf Hitler chose to live and a visit to his famed teahouse (Eagle’s Nest) atop Mt. Kehlstein with incredible views (when the weather plays along, of course!) takes roughly three hours, allowing us to be able to include a short visit to Salzburg or to Herrenchiemsee Palace on the same day. You may, however, prefer to not miss the opportunity to experience an unforgettable boat ride across the pristine and absolutely gorgeous Königsee with non-stop breathtaking views, to the 12th century monastery St. Bartholomew where we can eat and drink at what we regard to be, hands down, the most idyllic beer garden on the planet.
Tough choices, huh? We know! But alas! Naturally, it is also an option for us to take you out two or more days in a row!
